Rachel Carson was Gemini, the sign of the messenger, with Ascendant in Pisces, a water sign. Gemini is the sign usually given in mythological astrology to the messenger and Pisces to the 12th house. In 1952, Carson wrote a book inspiring us to think of the sea as a living entity. In 1962 she published Silent Spring, warning us of the dangers of pesticide poisons and the destruction it was causing our planet, air, land, water, ecosystems and humans. Carson was an embodiment of the messenger. Her legacy left us the new-found movement of environmentalism. She wasn’t an Epigeneticist, and didn’t finish her doctorate degree in Biology, but had keen insight and able to see the interrelationship of the chain of being: the ecosystem.
Rachel had 0 degree Sagittarius Moon, and Sun opposite at 4 degrees Gemini. In Astrology the Earth is always opposite the Sun. This means that if we took consideration of the so-called 13th sign of the Zodiac, Earth, and Rachel’s moon, are located symbolically in her chart in the Constellation of Ophiuchus, the serpent bearer.
A few years back NASA came out with the article of the 13th constellation, and how Astrologers got it all wrong by telling us there are only 12. I won’t get into a technical explanation, but reason the story keeps coming back, is, in my opinion, a more important sign. The 13th constellation known as Ophiuchus was given to the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius was taught the healing arts by Chiron, the Centaur. Ophiuchus wrestles with the serpent, grasping its body. His own placement given to him in the sky divides the Serpent body into two parts. Ophiuchus, constellation is placed between Scorpio and Sagittarius.
Life in this planet, aka: Gaia, Ki, Terra, Earth, or whatever name we choose to call it, is in similar dangerous condition as the ancient Babylonian myth of Enuma Elish. In this myth Tiamat’s offspring found themselves in danger of the “poison from the giant serpent, who is believed by some to be symbolically represented as the constellation of Drako. Tiamat needed to be contained before it destroyed its creation, except the “poison” is not in Enuma Elish’s sky, but on Earth.
Due to the pesticide and lawn chemical poisons, pollinators are dying in the billions and it is affecting human health (cancer clusters in children, dogs getting malignant tumors, etc. Currently, 1.1 billion pounds of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, weed killer, fungicide, Monsanto’s Roundup, spread every year across North America on agricultural areas, lawns, golf courses, properties, etc. There are 30 million pounds of 2,4-D sprayed on our food every year. Exposure to 2,4D causes damage to nervous system, liver, kidneys, thyroid disorder and improper brain development. Just one leaf blower can spread carcinogen Benzene at 146 per million into our environment. Our mowers, cars, addiction to oil and fracking are contributing to our Climate deterioration. Environmental deterioration is now part of our inheritance of a modernity that doesn’t place healthy values in preservation of clean air, water, and land. It is an inheritance we leave our children and children‘s children. If we see the consequences of this connection in a more modern and practical way, as Carson did being way ahead of the scientific community, or even in religious way, as the word “life” (God, among its many names and embodiments could also be viewed as “life”).
How we live and use this “life” does make a difference? What we value, how we treat our planet, matters in the same way our choices matter in directing or re-directing our lives, and our health. Our actions, inaction and lack of right action, or iniquities to this life through the mistreatment, ignorance of the treatment, of our environment by polluting our oceans, air, land, food, and planet with toxic chemicals, is something we’re also doing to ourselves
In my opinion, the reason for the 13th Constellation of Ophiuchus resonating and getting much attention in our modern time is because this story most likely is playing an unintended role, resonating with the psyche of those who feel connected to it, folks who’s consciousness are more in tune with the vibration of the call for healing and saving our planet. Rachel Carson was one of them. Thank you, wherever you are for your work, your service and being the messenger. I’m only sorry it has taken so long, for us to understand the message. May you rest in peace.
